The adage "feightandbethere" comes from newspaper photography when snappers used plates and had one shutter speed. It is self explanatory if the photographer was not at the event there would be no picture. If he/she was there f8 would guarantee some sharpness in the smudger's art!
Much the same holds true today and I try to pick subjects for this blog where "being there" is important. Occasionally my judgement slips slightly.
